Designing cards and having them printed
Making a card involves two separate choices: design and printing. You may already have a file, want to adapt a design yourself or need professional layout. Decide what the card is for first, then choose the card product and design approach that fit your plan.
Choose the right card product
A birth announcement, wedding, communion or celebration invitation needs different content from a business postcard or business card. The invitations page brings several occasions together in one product. Choose size, paper and finishing to suit the design and use. Thank-you cards and table place cards have their own product pages and suitable options.
Your own PDF or a design in Canva
You can supply your own print-ready PDF or design from a template in the external Canva environment, then supply the PDF for printing to PrintPlaats. For a single A6 invitation, the finished size is 105 × 148 mm. With 3 mm bleed all around, the PDF is 111 × 154 mm. Extend the background into that extra edge and keep names, date and venue at least 3 mm inside the finished size. Folded cards use the open size specified on their own product page.
Folded cards have an open size
A folded card has a front, inside and back. Prepare the file at the open size according to the folded-card page. PrintPlaats supplies these cards flat with a crease line so you can fold them neatly yourself. Check text or photos near the fold and how the pages will meet once folded.
Several products in one style
Want matching invitations, menus, thank-you cards and place cards? Keep colours, fonts and images consistent and adapt each file to its product size. For professional layout, look at the existing coordinated design package. Design and printing are explained separately there, with current package conditions. Ask for advice if you are unsure which products or quantities you need.
