Preparing a print-ready PDF
A print-ready PDF starts with the product you order. A flyer, envelope and brochure have different technical requirements. Choose the finished size and production options first, then check that your file matches. This avoids uncertainty between the design and the order.
Start with the correct size
Read the specifications of your chosen product before exporting. Finished size means the size after trimming; the file may be larger because of bleed. A folded card also has an open size. Do not borrow dimensions from another product, even if both designs look the same size on screen.
Bleed and safe space
For Flyers, PrintPlaats requires 3 mm bleed when an image or background reaches the edge. Extend that background and keep important content within the product’s safe margin. Envelopes have different printable areas around edges, windows and glued sections. A general bleed setting does not automatically make an envelope design suitable.
Check the exported PDF
Open the exported PDF and inspect every page, rather than only the working document. Check photos, text, fonts, QR codes and page order. The flyer page recommends CMYK and 300 dpi and describes one PDF containing the front and back for double-sided printing. Follow the separate instructions for brochures and other products; do not add blank pages or crop marks without a reason.
Supply a clear final version
Use a recognisable filename and avoid several ambiguous versions. Check names, phone numbers, dates and amounts yourself: a technical file check does not replace approval of the content. Have an unusual size or doubts about production options? Discuss this through the existing contact page before production, mentioning the product, quantity and intended use.
